About Lora.

I began my career as a high school English teacher and then as superintendent. Along the way I earned a masters’ degree in English and a PhD in English Education (Iowa-Go Hawks!). I also taught at Western Illinois University (2001-2020) both as an adjunct and then professor in the Educational Leadership program. During that time I chaired 32 successful dissertations (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) and served on 34 dissertation committees.

Additionally, my son decided to apply to med school and so I helped him with the medical school application, residency application, and fellowship application processes. Little did I know how complicated, competitive and obtuse those are. I also acquired an interest in the related materials (the applications, the CVs, the dreaded personal statements, the interviews, the Match, and SOAP).

Since retiring as a superintendent and professor, I’ve been assisting doc students with their dissertation writing and editing along with working residency/fellowship candidates beginning in the Match 2022 cycle on their application materials including ERAS applications and personal statements. During the Match 2023 season, I assisted over 30 candidates in the initial applications and during SOAP worked with 24 additional candidates (of which 15 secured positions during SOAP). During the Match 2024 season, we worked with 100+ resident candidates on their ERAS Applications and their personal statements. In SOAP 2024, we worked with 50 candidates.

About Chelsea.

Chelsea graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls, IA) with an education degree (secondary social studies) in 2016. She taught MS and HS social studies and coached track for two years and softball for a year. She is currently finishing her M.Ed in Student Affairs (May 2023) at Iowa State University (Ames, IA). Chelsea served as the Program Coordinator for the Complex Family Planning OB/GYN fellowship program at the University of New Mexico and currently serves as the Residency Program Specialist for the OB/GYN residency program.

Chelsea became interested in medical school education and graduate medical education (residency and fellowship) through friends attending medical school. She assisted friends with reviewing their CVs and personal statements in preparation for residency. During the Match 2022 season she supported a close friend during the SOAP process.

Chelsea joined the Words Words Words team during the SOAP 2023 season. Chelsea has worked with over 100 resident candidates on their personal statements providing feedback on both content and writing. Residency specialities ranged from Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Ear/Nose/Throat, Neurology, General Surgery, and Psychiatry. In addition, during SOAP she conferenced with resident candidates, reviewed personal statements on an extremely tight timeframe because of SOAP, and Letters of Interest for the Scramble post-SOAP. She also assisted those in SOAP with planning out their SOAP week plan and strategies to obtain a match in SOAP. Chelsea helped support over 110+ candidates during the ERAS 2023/Match 2024 season along with SOAP 2024.
